‘Fondness’ Art Book
Rather than facing each other, artist Yoon Hyungtaek depicts a warm and comfortable sense of trust that gives each other's side in the canvas. We sit next to each other without any purpose and look at the moment when we are together as if our time overlaps. Fragments of memories that are special to say daily life and friendly to say special are captured in close family images and lovers to approach the public in a friendly way.

Somewhere in between, there is ‘Fondness’ that is more mature than ‘likeness’ but more cheerful than ‘love’. If you remove the impulse, addiction and intensity from the word ‘love’, you get ‘Fondness’.

For the artist, looking at each other face to face means love, and looking from the side means likeness which is the reason why the artist likes to draw side profiles. In other words, the artist prefers likeness rather than love. A problem arises because what the artist seeks to express is neither love nor likeness. The likeness that the artist wants to express through his works can be defined as an emotion that doesn’t have the impulse, addiction, and intensity of love, and which overlaps the affection over and over again.

An art collaboration between the National Hangeul Museum and Alloso, presented at the 2026 Hangeul Culture Industry Exhibition at Gwanghwamun Square, marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangeul Day. The “Sofa Mood Language” collection explores the intersection of Hangeul and furniture, bringing a fresh perspective to language in everyday life.

For his “되·돼·됬·됐” sofa, artist Yoon Hyung Taek draws inspiration from the everyday act of typing on a smartphone and the typos that often go unnoticed. Finding wit and unexpected meaning in commonly confused Korean expressions, he transforms the repetition and visual variations of letters into a playful exploration of the structural possibilities of Hangeul.

By reinterpreting familiar language through an artistic lens, the work brings new meaning to the everyday sofa and offers a fresh way for Hangeul and art to become part of daily life.
